In July we traveled to Chicago for Mark's cousin's wedding. We decided to make a long weekend out of the trip and see some of the sites. Our first stop was a very long, full day at the Shedd Aquarium. We were there for over 6 hours and we all really enjoyed.
We had been at the Aquarium for about 15 minutes, and were looking at the not very exciting or pretty brown river fish. Cole came up to me and said, "This is the best place ever. Thanks for bringing us!" Such a sweet boy! And you can imagine how excited he was when we saw the more exotic fish.
These cute pictures were taken just before we went to Hell saw the 3D movie. We had the choice of Happy Feet, or another one that wasn't as appropriate for young kids (according to the ticket sales lady). Cole and Kara weren't crazy about the idea of the movie from the beginning, and things got bad, fast. There were several scary parts that had even Mark and I jumping out of our seats, but the hands down worst moment was when the poor defenseless penguins were attacked by a huge whale that jumped out at us and scared us all to death! I think one ended up in the whales mouth but I don't remember as my eyes were half closed and I was trying to pick Cole up off the floor. I can't imagine what the other movie was like, if Happy Feet was the one best suited for kids! We had a bad time for a few minutes after that, but quickly found the beluga whales being trained, and then went to another area to see the calf, and then all was right with the world Aquarium again.
Something that took us by surprise was the incredible amount of traffic as we left the Aquarium. We had no trouble arriving in the morning, and didn't think about afternoon traffic. It took us almost 2 hours to go about 40 miles. Maybe that's normal for Chicago, but we weren't fans! Thankfully the kids didn't mind.
Cole had a little TV to keep him occupied. And Kara is able to sleep in that position, so she arrived well rested!
