Kara Plays Soccer

Earlier in the summer we were trying to help Kara find an activity that she would like to participate in.  She has not had any experiences in sports/activities except dance and gymnastics.  We listed a wide array of choices (music, art, gymnastics, sports...) and all Kara wanted to do was dance.  So we moved her to a new dance school (that I wrote about in her first day of school post), but still wanted her to try something else.  We saw that Pee Wee Soccer was a choice through the Parks & Recreation department and signed her up.  Kara wasn't overly excited, but because of the ages of the kids, you had to have a parent participate so we knew she'd be okay.  She ended up having fun and showed a bit of skill.  Her league was strictly learning new skills and practicing them, but at the last class they played a 'kids vs. parents' game.  Kara was so excited every time she made a goal (and they scored a lot!).  After the game, we told her that next year she could play in a league that played games, and she immediately said 'no'.  Oh well!  She still had fun!

The coach was pretty nice (he was also the organizer of Cole's league, but not his coach) and let Cole participate a lot.  He was able to play opposite of Kara which allowed Mark to stay by Kara and give her pointers.

Also, it was pretty funny because only two of the ten kids were girls, and the other girl wore black soccer shorts, a black t-shirt, her hair pulled back, and generally looked ready to play.  And then there's our sweet, girly Kara playing soccer in pink and floral!
