Overflow - Recital 2011

First, a look at our beautiful girl before I go any farther.

Her dance class performed their recital piece this year in tap.  Kara takes instruction in both ballet and tap, prefers ballet, but does well in both.  Their song was titled 'Dive' which is why they wore the super cute bathing suit style costumes with the scarves.  When we were first told that they would be performing in tap, another mom and I (whose daughter also danced last year) were worried that their piece would be boring and easy (based on the performances last year for a similar age group).  Well, the class last year must not have had the owner as their instructor/choreographer because their piece was very difficult!  At one point we counted 16 different movements, two formations, and they used beach balls (which they had to get rid of half way through in a cute but tricky move).  In addition, the music was fast so the girls were moving constantly for their 2 1/2 minutes (which doesn't sound like much, but if you're 4 and 5, it was).  So all that to say that the performance wasn't as good as last years, but it was much more complex.  And from seeing each week, I can say that they really improved and worked hard and everyone gave it everything they had.

All the pictures were taken during the dress rehearsal.  Kara was the first one out in the group.  They all did a wonderful job and we're so proud of Kara and all the girls!

All the dancers come out for the Finale.  The little ones don't do much but sit and wave their arms while the older dancers come out and take a bow.  Then everyone stands to take a bow and smile at the thunderous applause from hundreds of beaming parents and proud friends and family.

And just for fun, a look at Kara from last year's recital.
