Hair 101

So last year it was the challenge of getting Kara's baby fine hair into a bun for recital.  I have been putting her hair up in a bun every week for dance this year, so I was confident that we would have the perfect bun for this year's recital.  No, the hair fates were against me!  This year, we had to curl every piece of hair on their head.  Grrr!  I knew it was possible because Kara had curly hair for David and Katie's wedding last year.  We had a practice hair session before her dance pictures were taken.  I planned on using a curling iron but I wasn't sure that I could get her to sit still long enough for me to curl her hair.  I bought sponge curlers as a last resort, but as soon as Kara saw them she wanted me to use them.  So we followed the directions of getting her hair clean but leaving it damp (and found out it needs to be left soaking wet), applied a ton of gel, and then we all sat and watched a Disney nature documentary while I rolled Kara's hair.  The first time was quite stressful, and I do believe I had a cocktail after (not during, mind you, because I was too afraid of what might happen!).

Please, someone, help me!
If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you will see the eye roll Kara is giving me.  Perhaps she is doubting my ability?  Or technique?  Both?
Kara went to sleep with a head full of rollers, and only one fell out during the night.  She had the curliest head of hair imaginable!  Not as smooth and pretty as a curling iron, but more than adequate for dance.  When we went to the studio for pictures, I found out that Kara had the prettiest head of curls, and that I spent the least amount of time and effort in doing her hair.

Here is a picture of Kara in all her hair curled glory (and costume preview!)
