Since Cole was enjoying ice skating and hockey so much, we considered buying him his own pair of ice skates. Mark talked to a parent one night during practice and she said that they had bought their son roller blades instead, and how well he was doing with them. So, taking that into consideration, plus the fact that he would have limited time using ice skates (having to go during open skate times, paying the fee, Mark or I having to skate with him...), we decided to buy roller blades instead. Mark took Cole to get a pair, and they were on immediately once they got home. The first few times around the circle were a little wobbly (and we lost a pair of pants due to rips), but he soon found his balance and did a really good job skating.
Kara and I came home with a new bike for her. So Mark built her bike while Kara and I walked with Cole as he tried a few stretches of straight road, rather than constant curves. The plan was to head over to the school for both of them to have some 'wide open spaces' to practice.
Look at Kara riding her bike! Isn't she cute? That was dripping with sarcasm because she pitched a huge fit after she got on her bike and has refused to ride it. Glad she didn't talk me into buying the more expensive Barbie bike!
Cole did awesome once he had some confidence and space to really move. He did a great job going up and down hills, gradually choosing harder ones, and maneuvering around turns. He really had fun and probably skated for a couple of hours that first day.
Look! We had a day of sun and the kids got to wear shorts. It was the first, and last, warm to hot day we've had in West Michigan.
