New Cub Scout Pack

Mark and I gave up on the idea of trying to create a new pack at Cole's school.  We transferred to a new pack that is larger and has boys from several different schools.  Thankfully, Cole's friends decided to transfer as well so they do have someone that they know.  Last night (Jan. 20) was the first pack meeting for the new group.  I took Cole because Kara wasn't feeling well and we thought she should get a little extra rest.  Cole was a little nervous, but once he saw his friends he had a good time.

The Tiger scouts (his group) was in charge of the flag ceremony, another group taught everyone a song, another did a skit, achievements were passed out, and they did several activities to earn their Disability belt loop.  It was pretty interesting (and hopefully enlightening for the boys).  First, they had to wear glasses that were smeared with Vaseline and try to put a puzzle together.  Then they had to wear ear plugs and try to pass along messages.  A third station had them using a walker and wheelchair to try to open doors and carry groceries, and the last had them listen to people speak in Spanish and try to figure out what they were saying.

We also got information on the Blue and Gold Banquet (which they compared to the equivalent of the Senior Prom!) in February.  It will be held at the Kentwood Library, catered, and have different groups come in for entertainment.  The Pinewood Derby is in March and the pack will have their race at a car dealership in town.  Much cooler than anything we would have been able to do!  We did get Cole's 'car' (a block of wood) last night and he wanted to go home and build it right away!  Had to explain some of the rules and regulations that we would have to follow.  Dad, we may be calling to see if you have some tools we can borrow!  : )  So far the boys and parents were very nice and welcoming, and the Den Leader was happy to have some new boys join his group.
Sorry no pictures!  : )
