The Beginning of a future NHL All-Star (maybe)

I thought I'd take my turn finally and help out with some of the posts.  Last night, Cole had his very first ice skating class.  It began about a week earlier, when a number of Kentwood High School hockey players made a visit to his school.  Cole's interested began to grow, but continuing in his smart nature, thought it'd be wise to learn how to skate before taking up hockey.  Thus, we signed him up for the class.

The first few minutes were tense, as Cole was a little nervous.  He overcame his nerves rather quickly, as the high school coach was within earshot, and invited Cole for a personal tour of the locker room (smells and all).  Cole's smile stretched ear to ear.  The Coach introduced him to one of the varsity players (Matt) to help him get on the ice.  He handed Cole a pair of hockey gloves, even.  From that moment on, Cole has having fun.

Of course, he had some spills.  But, credit him for never quitting.  He kept on getting back up.

And, every now and then, he would take a quick break.  As you can see, here we've got the hockey player comparison shot......no front teeth!

By the end of the class, Cole was moving on his own, using his partner only when needed.  The high school kids were great, as they were very helpful in giving pointers and keeping the kids from hitting the ice hard (which Cole never did have a hard fall).

Not until on the way out, did Cole realize there were more kids from his grade in the same class.  His teacher was there, too with her son.  Now, he has something more to look forward to the next class.

From the Stach Shack,
Mark
