T-Ball League

Cole has yet to find the sport or activity that really interests him.  We tried soccer several times, but after the last league we decided it wasn't worth pursuing.  Cole had taken a t-ball clinic last summer, where you basically learn the rules and just play games against your teammates, and had some interest.  We found a league through Kentwood Parks and Rec that lasted for 8 weeks - two weeks of practices and six games (once a week).  Cole was neutral about it, but we wanted him to participate in something, so we signed him up.  This is probably where I should also mention that it only cost $35, so it wasn't a huge investment if he didn't want to continue.

We were pleasantly surprised with how well Cole did and how much he enjoyed t-ball.  Granted, all 10-12 kids play in the field, and everyone gets a turn to hit and get on base each inning, but still!  Cole is pretty enthusiastic about playing a game (for any sport), but dislikes practice.  But t-ball was something that he was willing to practice - played catch with Dad in the yard, hitting off our tee with the neighbor kids, hauled all our gear to the elementary school to play games...  He still could have been more enthusiastic about practicing and warming up, but it was a good start.

It'll be interesting to see if he chooses to continue with t-ball / baseball, or not.  On one hand, it isn't as aggressive a sport, and there is some independence to it (being part of a team, but everyone having their own area to field, etc.), but he might lose interest once they start playing with a few more rules and Cole doesn't get to bat and get on base every time.  We'll see!

Here are a couple of pictures from his games.

The assistant coach was absent one week, and Cole volunteered Mark to help out.  He was so proud to have his dad out there and really loved seeing him at third base!

Doing some good fielding!

Some positions are less exciting than others!  : )
