Snow-Palooza 2011

Like everyone else in the United States, we got hit with a bunch of snow in early February.  I don't know what constitutes a blizzard, but 17 inches of snow in less than 24 hours is certainly news-worthy at least.  We missed the record for the most snowfall at one time by less than half an inch.  

Cole and Kara had school canceled, of course, and Mark ended up spending the day at home because he couldn't get out of the cul de sac.  The disadvantage of living in the back of our subdivision is that we are rarely plowed in any timely manner.  Mark was going to attempt to leave, so he could at least say that he tried, but then learned that most of his office wasn't going in, so he didn't bother.  He was 'on call' that week, so he had the work phone and laptop with him, so he was really busy in the morning, fielding all the phone calls since the phones were forwarded to him.  Once the phone calls stopped, we were able to spend some time outside, as it was bright and sunny and mid-20's.  Kara and I lasted for about 45 minutes, and Cole stayed out with some friends for almost two hours! 

So happy to be outside!

 Kids must have thought it was summer because Cole hauled out all his plastic sandbox trucks and Kara played with her plastic animals.  Think they were excited to play with something different!

 Once Cole and a friend got tired of playing trucks, they started digging holes.  They dug this hole for Kara to use for a cave for her animals.  : )

 This tree in the front yard is tall.  They are usually no where near the branches!

 This is the same mound Kara was sitting on.  Obviously a lot of snow got flung here when Mark shoveled the driveway.  It was fun to slide down, and we didn't have to worry about any cars coming down the street!

The kids had two days off and we were able to spend large amounts of time outside each day.  It was wonderful to be outside and get some sunshine and have snow to play it!  It wasn't good for packing, and it was too deep to sled, but everyone found something fun to do.
