I didn't show the dress to Kara until the day before the ballet. Kara had been sick and needed some incentive to continue resting so we could hopefully still go to the ballet. She was really excited about the dress, and did want to put it on and find her accessories to wear with it. After having it on for a bit, Kara said she was ready to take it off and rest. So that planned worked!
Thankfully she was well enough to go to the ballet and she loved getting all fancied up. Her pretty dress, some jewelry, a little makeup, and our princess was ready for the
Our beautiful princess!
Waiting anxiously for the ballet to begin
Kara sat and looked at the program for over 15 minutes (notice that we had to rig the seat so she could sit by herself).
The ballet was quite different from the Disney story, but Kara was able to follow it well. She was very attentive, and noticed when people played different roles. During the first act, Kara sat upright in her seat and barely moved. The second act had her sitting by herself for part of the time and on my lap the rest. For the third act, Kara essentially laid on me and told me to wake her "when the lights came back on." It was quite long, given it was a youth ballet, and all the younger members of the audience were either sleepy or restless.
We had a wonderful time and it was fun to share a special afternoon together!
